We feed our stomachs around three times a day, but do we feed our mind? Our mind is very much like muscles in our body, i.e. if you use your muscles a lot they become toned, strong and flexible. If however, you don’t use your muscles, for whatever reason, they can become weak and inflexible. Your mind works in a similar way. If you tax your mind, it becomes stronger.
There are various things you can do to stimulate your mind, and scientists seem to conclude that stimulating the mind throughout our life helps you to remain active and alert in later life.
Reading, playing chess, doing puzzles, are all things that tax the mind.
Watching “general” television programs do not. I’m not saying avoid the TV at all costs, but limit it to just a few favourite programs rather than watching every bit of rubbish that seems to be transmitted on TV these days. After all these companies that transmit the television programmes are trying to maximise the largest audience figures they can, and most are not interested in whether the content of their programs are intellectually stimulating, but rather whether they can captivate and hold your attention with fun, intrigue, violence, horror etc. Continue reading “Feed Your Mind”
It doesn’t matter what you have or haven’t done up till now. It’s what you can do from today onwards that is important.
Grasp life, and live it fully. Don’t reach an age when you look back on your life and wish you’d done things differently or had taken more chances… As was mentioned in the famous film “Good Will Hunting” – “Seize the Day”!
If you’re unsure just what your magic is inside, ask others. Sometimes others are better judges on us than we are ourselves. Ask someone close who you can trust, just what they think your real passion is, and what do they see that we are good at. Because sometimes we don’t see what our hidden talents are, and it takes an observer from the outside to highlight them to us.
This could be the very ‘thing’ that you should be focusing on, and who knows, this would allow your ‘magic’ to come out and flourish.
You could eventually go to sleep at night knowing that your true potential was being reached. This would allow you to sleep comfortably knowing you are fulfilling what your inner being has always wanted to do or be
Let us first take this to the very basic level. We come into this world with nothing, and we eventually leave this world with nothing. It’s what you do in between that counts.
One thing you need to eradicate from your mind in the very beginning is that no-one is ‘better’ than you. Someone else may be better at a particular task or particular set of tasks, but we must make the distinction. They ‘may’ be better than you at these tasks, but that doesn’t make them better than you as a person. Unfortunately, we often get this muddled up. Many will fall into this trap, and put themselves in a self-imposed disadvantage before having even started! That’s why they decide up front they have no chance and never even ‘try’ things. Not a great way to look at life. But don’t be one of them! Remember we all go to the loo the same, no matter what shape, size or colour we are. We are all human beings!
So, we’ve established that no-one is better than us, but I know that many of you will take time to actually believe this. This tends to be because we compare something we aren’t necessary that good at doing, against someone who may be an expert in doing that task or activity. WRONG! Not a fair comparison, and again this goes into falsely confirming we are not as good as others and not believing in ourselves. Continue reading “Believe in Yourself”
